The Republic of Indonesia is located in Southeast Asia, which is made up of 17,508 islands, is the 4th most populous country in the world and is surrounded by Papua New Guinea, East Timor, Java and Malaysia.  Only 6000 of the islands of Indonesia are inhabited by people. New Guinea, Borneo and Sumatra Island are some of the largest Islands in the world.  However, with almost 250 million people, Java is the most populated Island in the world.

The world's largest Buddist temple, Borobudur Temple, is located in Indonesia. This temple was once included as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.  Looking for spices, Marco Polo was one of the first Europeans to reach Indonesia.  Because the Dutch colonized Indonesia for almost 350 years, many Indonesian words are derived from Dutch.
